Psyche Systems Introduces Vox Pap™ Conversational Computing
For Pathology Labs

Interactive Voice Software Goes Beyond Voice Recognition to Achieve Unprecedented Level of Efficiency and Improved Accuracy for Cytology Cases

Milford, Mass., Nov. 3, 2003 - Psyche Systems Corp. today announced the availability of Vox Papuli™ (Vox Pap) conversational computing software that enables anatomic pathology laboratories to more efficiently and accurately process GYN pap cases. Vox Pap works with Psyche Systems' WindoPath™ anatomic pathology information system to allow cytotechnologists to interact with the computer through a series of voice commands to complete cytology cases. Unlike available voice recognition technologies, Vox Pap offers truly interactive voice capabilities that enable the cytotech to focus exclusively on the specimen without the need to toggle back-and-forth between the microscope and the computer screen to verify information for record keeping and report generation. Vox Pap eliminates the need to perform time-intensive reviews of the specimen and minimizes the potential for human error.

"With Vox Pap, we've been able to reduce our turnaround time for GYN pap cases by more than a day, realizing substantial savings," said Clarissa White, Practice Manager, Pee Dee Pathology Associates, P.A. "This is a real advantage for us in this increasingly competitive market."

Vox Pap conversational computing software enables a "dialog" between the user and the computer in that the user speaks to the computer and the computer talks back. Vox Pap allows cytotechs to make a voice record of their observations with the use of a lightweight, cordless headset or microphone. The computer, through use of a synthetic voice, verbally prompts the cytotech for patient identification and other demographic information associated with a particular specimen, and then prompts the cytotech for the adequacy and the diagnosis. The computer records the diagnosis and reads the data back for verification, prior to prompting the cytotech to "sign out" the completed case.

Vox Pap can also recognize and flag a case that requires review before allowing sign out. The verbal commands recognized by the computer can be customized for a particular lab's use, employing condensed phrases or words to signify a certain action or result. For example, the command 'Negative' may be set to mean "Negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy" in the record. This flexibility makes Vox Pap easy-to-use in almost any laboratory setting to improve productivity and prevent costly errors.
