Psyche Systems Introduces The EMR Internet Interface
New Connectivity Solution Based on Web and HL7 Standard Technology Streamlines Data Sharing Between Psyche Systems’ Laboratory Information Systems and EMR Systems

Milford, Mass., March 20, 2006 – Psyche Systems Corp. today announced the availability of a new EMR Internet Interface based on Web and HL7 standard technology. The new offering is designed to overcome the challenges of traditional HL7 interfaces by delivering a simple, low-cost tool for system-to-system data sharing between Psyche Systems’ laboratory information systems (LIS) and any electronic medical record (EMR) system.

According to JCAHO, the laboratory generates as much as 80 percent of the information that physicians rely on for medical decisions, and test results account for some 80-90 percent of data in a patient record. As EMR adoption rises, integrating laboratory data directly into both the hospital’s and physician office’s EMR systems has significant advantages in improving patient care, and also in creating efficiencies and reducing clerical errors to help labs improve reimbursement rates.

“A community-based laboratory may need to share data with more than 50 separate EMR systems, all of which would require an individual interface with the traditional method,” said Steven Olsen, Director of Pathology for High Point Regional Health System. “A new, low cost and adaptive interface solution is critical to the success of not just the community laboratory, but the vision of the connected healthcare continuum.”

Psyche Systems’ EMR Internet Interface leverages Web Services technology to streamline sharing of laboratory orders and test results between its LabWeb® LIS or WindoPath® anatomic pathology information system and any commercially available or custom developed EMR system. Sharing information with many different types of EMR systems is simplified by the use of standard file formats such as HL7, XML, and PDF.
